Fractalius is a Photoshop plugin that creates unusual, eccentric artworks in a single step. The effects are based on extraction of so-called hidden fractal texture of an image. You can also simulate various types of exotic lightings and high realistic pencil sketches[^1^].
In this article, we will show you how to install and use Fractalius plugin for Photoshop CS6 on Windows.
Download Fractalius plugin from the official website[^1^]. The latest version is 21.04, released in April 2021. The file size is 4.27 MB.
Run the SetupFractalius.exe file and follow the instructions to install the plugin.
Launch Photoshop CS6 and open an image you want to apply Fractalius effect to.
Go to Filter > Redfield > Fractalius. A dialog box will appear with various settings and presets.
Fractalius plugin has many options to customize the effect according to your preference. Here are some of the main parameters:
Radius: This controls the size of the fractal elements. Higher values produce larger and smoother elements, while lower values produce smaller and sharper elements.
Sharpness: This controls the contrast and detail of the fractal elements. Higher values produce more defined and crisp elements, while lower values produce more blurred and soft elements.
Diffusion: This controls the amount of blending between the original image and the fractal elements. Higher values produce more transparent and subtle elements, while lower values produce more opaque and dominant elements.
Line Width: This controls the thickness of the fractal lines. Higher values produce thicker and bolder lines, while lower values produce thinner and finer lines.
Glow: This controls the brightness and color of the fractal elements. Higher values produce more luminous and saturated elements, while lower values produce more dark and desaturated elements.
Pencil Sketch: This option simulates a realistic pencil sketch effect by adding shading and texture to the fractal elements. You can adjust the intensity and color of the sketch effect using the sliders below.
You can also choose from various presets that are available in the drop-down menu at the top of the dialog box. These presets are categorized into different themes, such as Abstract, Artistic, Fantasy, Nature, Portrait, etc. You can also save your own presets by clicking on the Save button at the bottom of the dialog box.
Once you are satisfied with the effect, click on OK to apply it to your image. You can also use Undo or Cancel buttons if you want to revert or discard the changes.
